Laura Tinker, LCSW

Counseling Approach

I am committed to working with individuals to assist them in identifying and accepting all parts of themselves; to help each individual grow in self-leadership. My approach to therapy is developing safety and trust by collaborating with clients and understanding that they are the expert in their experiences. The framework that I utilize most frequently is Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS). IFS views an individual with many characteristics and roles as well as a player in a variety of  larger systems (e.g. family, school, work, community). IFS aims to achieve harmony and balance between these various parts, roles, and systems.

Biography

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the State of Illinois and I have been working in the field for more than ten years. I have provided crisis intervention, case management, individual and family therapy, and coordination of care services with other providers for youth, adults, and families experiencing a variety of intra and interpersonal challenges. In the last several years, I have provided clinical supervision to staff aimed at helping them effectively align with their clients and provide services that are strengths-based and client-driven. Most recently, I have been part of an Agency Quality oversight team that ensures all clients are receiving services of the highest quality and ethical integrity. These multiple roles around providing, supervising, and overseeing quality services provide me with a counseling perspective that is both holistic and individualized. I look forward to each new client and feel privileged to have a front row seat as they learn about themselves, revealing solutions and strengths that always existed within them, and move towards a more self-led, empowered, and satisfying life.
