Lisa Vargovcik, LCSW
I strive to build flexible, caring relationships based on trust, understanding, and shared goals. I work with many different cultural groups and embrace the wealth of perspectives, differences, and variety that make every person who sees me unique. Coming from an approach of solving problems by finding and using the the strengths of clients, I believe that progress is possible regardless of the severity and duration of a person's concerns. I understand how important it is for a client to feel validated, be understood, and to hear that their problems or concerns matter. To me, this is key in empowering a client to work towards wellness and recovery. I use a variety of interventions including Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I provide individual and family counseling to children, adolescents, and adults.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Illinois. The majority of my career has been in outpatient community mental health settings. Prior to private practice, I provided individual, group and family counseling to a large caseload with wide ranging needs. I treated both the mental health and/or substance abuse needs of clients. I also provided after-hours crisis assessment and placement services for children and adults in multiple counties in southern Illinois. Prior to this, I completed a Master’s in Social Work at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE). While in the master’s program, I interned at a community mental health agency as well as an agency that provided services for youth affected by physical, sexual or other forms of abuse. Additionally, I worked in the Edwardsville school district’s summer youth program. Before obtaining a Master’s, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Illinois at Springfield. During those years, I worked in the Springfield school district as a tutor for elementary students.
