Roger Gunther, LCSW
Roger works with older teens through adult age clients. He is particularly skilled at working with individuals and couples who are trying to get their relationships back on track. He addresses many types of concerns and issues including grief, anxiety, depression, and stress management. Roger has been described as having a calm and caring personality that puts individuals at ease. Roger uses a variety of therapy techniques (cognitive behavioral therapy, solution focused therapy, and psycho-dynamic interventions to name a few) to address the goals, barriers, and symptoms that a client is bringing into therapy. In sessions, Roger is empathetic and non-judgmental while remaining genuine and focused on goals in therapy. This blend of empathy and focus on solutions has enabled him to help clients make important changes while feeling good in therapy. Clients appreciate that Roger focuses on connecting with them, understanding what they are communicating, and making sure they feel safe while still targeting the goals that his clients are aiming to achieve.
Roger has been serving the behavioral health needs of the community for over thirty years in a variety of settings. This breadth of experience has shaped Roger into the versatile and well-rounded clinician he is today. After obtaining his masters degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Roger began his career as a hospital social worker. Quickly becoming the Director of Social Services at an area hospital, Roger had experience providing counseling to individuals and groups, and directing services provided to psychiatric and hospice patients and their families. After practicing in medical social work, Roger shifted his focus to working with aging individuals in an outpatient setting. After this, Roger then pivoted to working at a national mental health insurance company providing short-term counseling services, assessments, and crisis intervention. Throughout much of his career, Roger worked in private practice meeting with clients to provide individual and couples counseling. Currently, Roger works exclusively meeting with clients in private practice. Roger's years of experience and varied work settings has given him unique perspectives with which to assist his clients.
