Tori Cullen, LCSW
Meeting with clients, I strive to genuinely learn who they are and what they want so that I can help them reach their objectives. Having seen how our self-doubts and assumptions hold us back from living our best lives, I team up with clients to erode those barriers. I approach counseling as a partnership where together we find and build internal strengths and develop new skills and paradigms to improve life and solve problems. To me, the counseling relationship is a true collaboration where therapist and client work together, not a situation where the counselor is seen as the expert in all things and the client is seen as broken or helpless. Since creating a strong foundation is crucial in effective therapy, I strive to earn the trust of each client by offering a warm, welcoming, and non-judgmental space that allows us to focus on change. To effectively support the differences in each person and situation, I utilize a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioral and Dialectical Behavioral Therapies as well as Solution Focused, Client Centered, and Problem Solving interventions.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the states of Illinois and Missouri. I received an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Masters in Social Work from St. Louis University. I began my career over twenty years ago working with children and families involved in the foster care system. It was there I learned that people facing immense challenges can thrive with the right combination of supports. Since that time I have been privileged to work with individuals and families struggling with eating disorders, substance addictions, depression and anxiety. I have helped individuals in both outpatient and inpatient settings with issues ranging from mild symptoms affecting their happiness to living with disabling and severe mental illness. Many years as a school social worker and counselor provided valuable experience working with adolescents in both regular and special education. I have professional and personal experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum and a special interest in helping those families with the many challenges they face.
